
Degree: Master of Science. Options: Thesis (24 hours of coursework), or non-thesis (30 hours
of coursework; may include directed research project as part of coursework if desired).
Assistantship: To assist in teaching laboratory sections, during Fall and Spring semesters, of a
university-wide introductory Genetics class (3103). Responsibilities involve teaching
two lecture-laboratory sections (maximum of one hour and 50 minutes each) per week
with approximately five student contact hours per week during the Fall and
Spring semesters, and the instruction of one 4 - week summer session after the first year.
Summer instruction will be assisted by new incoming TA. Assistantship is for two years.
Includes stipend and tuition waver. Students are encouraged to further develop teaching materials
and techniques for their use during the program and for their post-graduate career use.
Graduate program also provides the student with the opportunity to further their
preparation and increase their eligibility for entrance into veterinary/medical school,
as demonstrated by the successes of previous students
Requirements: Students must have taken biology courses, including Genetics, in
their undergraduate curriculum. During the first Summer Session I (June)
that is taught by a previous teaching assistant, students can
familiarize themselves with the course material prior to assuming
their teaching responsibilities in the subsequent Fall semester.
Research: Project for thesis option may pertain to
pathology/physiology/reproduction in commercial birds.
Program of The student has the choice of a minor, such as Genetics,
Study: Physiology, etc. The program of study will be set by the student
and his/her graduate committee.
